Old School Edits

The great thing about genre revivals (which is, essentially, what we’re part of) is that they revamp a whole lot of classic songs. Granted, none of these were originally disco but oh man do the remixes ever work well. Here’s hoping we see more 90s hip hop/R&B edits in the coming months.… Read the rest

This story begins in 1982, on Emergency Records (Jonathan in France, and Best Records in italy). Featuring the vocals of Tara Butler, Electra’s single “Feels Good (Carrots & Beets)” pushes a more pro-NYC styling in it’s euro-disco sound, with a dirty electro-boogie bassline.… Read the rest

Moullinex – Flora LP

October 30, 2012 | New Music, Posts | Permalink

German nu disco mastermind Moullinex released his latest LP, Flora, this week on Gomma. A whopping 9 songs long, most of the tracks stick to Moullinex’s combined nu/classic disco style with some cool vocals added for good measure. I appreciate how many “real” sounds he included in this album – I’m getting slightly sick of space disco and it’s nice to hear “real” sounds.… Read the rest

Hello TLF Music Fanatics. Sorry for the lack in posts this past week; with the change of seasons and colder weather upon us in Toronto, my body hasn’t adjusted properly and resulted in being sick all week. Fellow Toronto residents, we’ve got a big weekend coming up. A Larry Levan Mix

Everything is a circle; our lives from birth to death, the earth and mechanical principles. Even a record is round just as music has a life cycle. As Q-tip says, “You could find the Abstract listening to hip hop.” My pops used to say that hip hop reminded him of be-bop, which then I would respond “Daddy, don’t you know that things go in cycles the way that Bobby Brown is just amp in like Michael.”

I find myself thinking of these principles as I listen to new house music, which helps me figure out the spirit and groove of a song that makes it so special.… Read the rest
